I bought a used 2 stroke on eBay myself did not want to spend the money but if I did I would measure the cut out and go see the motors to measure them as well. There are a lot of choices besides the major brands and it would seem to make sense to find the best fit before cutting the transom. Best luck on your search let us know what you find. M McVey

Is it just hinged on the top of the box? I’m seriously looking at a new Nissan 9.8 for a number of reasons. First it is smaller than Yamaha or Honda, second it weighs less (and I do race, so that is a consideration) and third it is a good bit less expensive. Notice I didn’t say cheaper….cause none of them are cheap. I’ll still likely have to modify the lazerette cover as well. I've attached and image of our "doghouse" for our Yamaha 9.9 . We've also noticed that the PO notched the upper edge of the outboard opening by an inch or so to accomodate the motor tilt. Tom C. Kiona West River, Md. 2008/6/24 Tom Owen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: I repowered my boat several years ago and could not find ANY 9.9 that would fit. My cutout had already been enlarged for the 1982 Evinrude 15 (essentially a 9.9 with electric start), but sill nothing came close. I ended up with a Nissan 9.9 and still had to modify the engine cover to fit in the cutout. I think you are going to have a really tough time finding any engine that will fit without modifying the cutout and the engine cover. Tom Owen Blue Heaven #279 Dahlgren, VA From: Lesley C. I'm pretty sure this question has been asked before so excuse me for going into it again. Has anyone out there found a newer model (4 stroke) motor that fits onto the stern of a older OB model C27 without having to modify the stern of the boat? I am looking to replace the old Johnson 9.9 that has done yeoman's duty for years but REALLY don't want to get into mounting brackets, etc. Maybe a Nissan 8.0 or such? Many thanks in advance.
