I can't honestly say it was a good vacation except that the weather was nice
We would have liked a little warmer temperature for snorkeling but we swam
nevertheless. We made the mistake of going during February school vacation
so it was expensive to fly from Boston to the Abacos. We provisioned the
boat ourselves which proved to work out for us. Man O War Cay was very nice
along with Hope Town and Treasure Cay - the people were very friendly. Our
main problem was with the boat and lack of service by the Moorings. We
planned on eating out a few times so you should probably plan for that but
other than Treasure Cay and Hope Town we anchored out most of the time.

Hi Sue,

That sounds like a trip to hell and not a vacation! I had heard good things
about the moorings but I guess there is always the possibility to end up
with a "lemon" poorly maintained boat. Other that the boat having problems,
how was the weather in February? How was it getting there? Shoud I plan
for additional expenses?

We did the Abacos in February with the Moorings out of Marsh Harbor and I
cannot recommend the Moorings. We had a 36' Beneteau with some major
problems that would/could ruin your vacation. We had engine problems with
the fresh water cooling system, it was leaking and it plagued us throughout
the vacation. We had to add fresh water to the system to keep it going and
when we called them on the radio they said they would do nothing to help
us. When we were leaving Treasure Cay the engine overheated and stopped, we
started to drift towards a sand bar but we were lucky to shift the drift
into a Texaco gas dock and called them on a land line and they told us they
would not come and look at the boat and it was up to us to sail the boat
back to Marsh Harbor, they would not come and help us. We had problems with
the charging system in that the house batteries were never charged by the
engine so the windless didn't work when we needed it plus the depth sounder
didn't work causing us to run aground on the first night. There were many
noises on the boat at night that we finally fixed for them including the
head that was bad from day one - I can't say we had a good time. We
complained and they offered us a discount on our next bareboat but we have
never gone back! We brought the boat back and tried to explain the
situation but it was booked for the following week so nothing was done to
solve the problems!
