My 85 inboard diesel is insured with USAA (United Services Automobile
Association). You have to be active or retired commissioned military or an
NCO for the last 5 or 10 years to insure with them.

They use Blue Book values to determine the value of your boat and will not
pay more than that amount. My 85 is valued at $14800. The policy has
$500,000 liability, $5,000 medical payments per person with a $250
deductible. My premium for next year is $157, which includes a 2006
inflatable and 5HP Nissan 4 stroke. I have a trailer which I do not insure
as it never leaves the boat yard.

One item to look at is what the policy pays for salvage (perish the
thought). This one will pay up to the liability. A guy here had a large
limb fall through the cabin top and hull of his J24. It sank in about 10
feet of water and was rather difficult to raise and get on a trailer. His
policy had a low value on salvage costs and he wound up paying about half of
the salvage costs, several thousand dollars.

Hello,

I am currently in the process of shopping for an insurance for my C27
(1978) as National Marine has the bad habit of increasing their premium
by 15% every year!

They intend to charge me $456 for this coming year, $100,000 liability
$500.00 deductible and $4500 for the boat value. Does this seem
resonable knowing I only navigate on the Hudson river and the boat being
wet for only 4-5 months?

Any other insurance company to suggest?

Thanks for the feedback!

Stephan
