I guess I need to do that pvc thing since I have the hang-up issues also.  I
did it on a previous boat and it worked well but I struggled with the
aesthetics of it all.  As sailors we are a part of a thing of beauty after
all…  :-)

I, too, made "shroud rollers" by installing 5' lengths of 3/4 inch PVC pipe
on the forward lowers.  They have made "knot hangups" a thing of the past.

Why 5'?  I got two out of one stock 10' pipe.  Why 3/4"?  I discovered that
the little caps that fit on the plastic turnbuckle covers fit perfectly over
the ends of 3/4" pipe.  I then gave them a couple of wraps of rigging tape
and, voila!
