My family used to own/race a Hobie 16. Those boats seem to sail on just 2 points of sail, close hauled and running. They are VERY fast and as the boat speed picks up the apparent wind moves forward and the boat sails as if tacking into the wind when in fact it is reaching. It takes some getting used to but it is true.

That didn't make sense to me at the time but by this logic of vectors, as the boat speed increases, the apparent wind angle would move away from the boat allowing one to sail tighter into the wind. By experience, that is what happens which would be explained by the vector thing.I guess.
