We are on the Bay too and went with a North 155% cross cut Genoa with the Luff rope option. The cut is Low which makes us (as a cruising setup) a little worried about not being able to see to leeward too well. Enough to think seriously about installing a small window low and forward in the Jib. (or else a forward looking video Camera) We love the power of this sail but it also caused us to accept the fact that the 32 year old bulkheads needed to be replaced! (There went the new Main for this season coming!)
But the others are right. The boat really dials in better and we don't feel like we are getting pulled on our side anymore. The Speedo is quicker to show boat speed increasing. Your sails have done you a wonderful service. Treat yourself to a nice change. Hey, help the economy out too and spend some cash!! I wanted the 155% because at some point I may just get up the nerve to get back to racing. While it is a far cry (and many tears from the bank account) away from real race ready, the big sail is a start (for me). When I was shopping at the boat show in 2007 many of the sail makers recommended we settle for a 140% (ish) sail for the bay. I'll agree to that if all you want to do is gunk hole (Chesapeake Bay style)! There are plenty of days on the bay where a 150+ sail does knock the stuff of the shelves in a gust (didn't need that bottle of Crown anyway, right?) Good luck and remember by your M.O. given, this is a LONG RANGE purchase. Think about that when you "option up " your sails! TomC Kiona #1914 West River, Md.
