Minor hysterical note: The original joke, as I understand it, was based on the fact that PyPI originally didn't contain any packages (or distributions). Like the cheeseshop having no cheese, the package index had no packages (or even distributions). The original joke doesn't really apply any more as many or most of us are actually uploading our distributions, so the project index really does indeed have cheese, I mean distributions.
