All,

I am extremely pleased to announce that the another final report is available for your review. This one is of Hybrid Records Guidelines Task Group:

Hybrid Records Guidelines TG Report
http://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/rda/RDA%20Task%20groups%20and%20charges/PCC-Hybrid-Bib-Rec-Guidelines-TG-Report.docx

The group was chaired by Gene Dickerson and was asked to provide a policy statement and guidelines in regards to hybrid bibliographic records for the post-implementation period, including machine/batch editing. In particular, they were asked to:

1. Prepare guidelines for PCC monograph and serial bibliographic records to be followed after RDA implementation for the addition and changing of elements when pre-RDA records are being edited.

2. Frame the guidelines within a definition and description of a "hybrid record" so that both the concept and the details will be understood by the PCC and broader professional community.

3. Review the six sets of interim guidelines prepared by the predecessor Task Group.

4. Recommend an implementation strategy and timetable for these guidelines.

5. Recommend machine or batch-editing methods to accomplish addition or deletion of elements on a large scale and a time frame in which such batch editing could take place.

The report has made a number of excellent recommendations but there is one in particular about which we are hoping for your thoughts. On page 23 in the section on updates to the PCC FAQ (sections 4.5 and 4.5), the report recommends that after March 30, 2013 all authorities used to support headings in PCC RDA cataloging must be explicitly coded as RDA. This would mean that those headings which are RDA acceptable would need to be evaluated. The evaluation might be as simple as changing the byte to RDA but in a few cases the 1XX may have to be altered based on usage in the 670. Please read the document carefully, we are very much interested in all your comments. The comment period will be open until the end of this month (Dec. 31st) and comments can be directed to SurveyMonkey:https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/T5JCFJ9. All the best
