Dear BIBCO members,

At the November meeting of the PCC Policy Committee (PoCo), we discussed the
results of the recent survey of BIBCO and CONSER libraries. Taking this
input into consideration, PoCo decided that December 31, 2014 will be the
last date for original BIBCO AACR2 cataloging. Starting January 1, 2015,
all BIBCO contributions must follow RDA BIBCO Standard Record guidelines.
Records created by BIBCO members that are not fully RDA compliant, may not
be coded PCC.

PoCo responses to some of the questions and concerns raised in the survey:

. Does this decision apply to all cataloging? No, only to BIBCO
records coded as PCC. BIBCO members may continue to catalog according to
pre-RDA standards, but those records cannot be coded PCC.

. Is conversion to RDA expected for copy cataloging? No. PCC does
not expect records to be converted to RDA as part of routine copy cataloging
process. Member institutions may choose a copy cataloging workflow
appropriate for their environment. If they choose to convert copy cataloging
records to RDA they may re-code as PCC.

. Will new records derived from non-RDA records be required to be
changed to RDA? Yes. Any new BIBCO record coded as PCC must be RDA
compliant. However, member institutions may choose to derive AACR2 records
without converting to RDA and not contribute as PCC.

. What about special materials/formats which lack complete RDA
documentation? Many specialized cataloging communities have RDA
documentation in the works. For special materials/formats, BIBCO members
may continue to catalog according to pre-RDA standards, but those records
cannot be coded PCC.

. What about places where RDA is unclear? BIBCO catalogers should
send questions/suggestions to the BIBCO list, [email protected] or
[email protected] . The PCC may consider creating additional RDA task
groups as needed.
