The ALCTS PARS Preservation Metadata Interest Group seeks proposals to
present on the topic "Current Approaches to Implementing Preservation
Metadata" at the 2016 ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, FL.

Our program is scheduled for Saturday, June 25 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. and will
feature two 20-minute presentations as well as time for Q&A.

When institutions are in the initial stages of establishing a commitment to
digital preservation, the standards can often be overwhelming. It helps to
know what tools and approaches have helped others establish a commitment to
preservation metadata. The program aims to feature case studies and
practical examples of how libraries, archives, and museums are implementing
preservation metadata practices that support long-term preservation of
digital materials.

Proposal ideas might touch on (but are not limited to):

* PREMIS 3.0 and the initial stages of its implementation

* Homegrown tools and microservices architectures to support
preservation functions

* Policies or workflows for collecting preservation metadata

* How to select open-source or commercial preservation systems

* Vendor perspectives on PREMIS implementations

*         Genre/format-specific preservation metadata approaches

To submit a proposal, please provide your name, email address, and the title
and abstract of

your presentation in the following Google form:

The deadline for proposals is 5:00 p.m. Pacific, Monday, May 2, 2016.

The MARC Formats Transition Interest Group is seeking volunteer nominations
for a new Chair and Vice-Chair. The Chair will be appointed for one year
(2017-1018), and the Vice-Chair will be appointed for two years (2017-2018
as Vice-Chair and 2018-2019 as Chair). This interest group provides a forum
to educate the library community on the transition efforts from the MARC
format. Specific emphasis is currently placed on education of transition
formats such as BIBFRAME, bibliographic and non-bibliographic transition
projects and tools that aid in the transition. The past two years have been
timely in reporting from a variety of the library and archives space on the
burgeoning work of moving from MARC, including the challenges and benefits.
For more background on the Interest Group, please visit the ALA connect
page: http://connect.ala.org/node/68263.

The Chair will be responsible with assistance from the Vice-Chair to
organize MTIG sessions for ALA annual and mid-winter, liaison with ALA
leadership, manage the Interest Group membership and other administrative
duties as necessary. At the conclusion of the appointment, the Vice-chair
will become Chair for 2018-2019.

Interested candidates should send an email to the current Co-chairs, Carolyn
Hansen ([email protected]) and Victoria Mueller ([email protected]).
Deadline for submission is April 30, 2016. If needed, voting for the
positions will occur in May and conclude by June 1. The incoming Chair and
Vice-chair will be introduced at ALA annual in Orlando.

We appreciate the opportunities to have served as Co-chairs and look forward
to the transition of leadership for this important Interest Group.

Sincerely,
Carolyn and Victoria (MARC Formats Co-Chairs)
