Isn’t that the purpose of the home page…? A Getting Started page
is more the place to put an example app download, a screencast
link, a whole bunch of tutorials… stuff like that.

Hmmm.... you're probably right, but it depends on how long that content will be. On the home page one could put that content in very few words, then descrbie the points in more detail in a "getting started" page.
