[Note: It is always unfortunate to speak of negativity, but there is a great vexation over the land, and the urgent need to lift it. On all sides is confusion, and so we urge viewers to obtain Holy Water and blessed salt this weekend and spread it in front of local polling places -- either now or on Tuesday, perhaps in the booths themselves, without damaging anything, without violating litter ordinances or any other laws, and without making a spectacle of it. Holy water and blessed salt chase evil away, and that is part of the emergency: keeping away the evil that might lead to wrong choices. Call the rectory, or bring a packet of it to Mass for the blessing. It is a legitimate <http://www.newsandfaith.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=122>sacramental that priests are obligated to provide. We request this while making no endorsement for any specific candidate but in following the guidelines set forth by the Vatican and bishops, who warn us against supporting anyone who backs abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, euthanasia, homosexual marriage, or cloning. That leaves us in a quandary that can only be discerned through prayer. Prayer is urgent as the U.S. reaches a final threshold. Here is the prayer for salt, any amount of which may be presented to a priest, using the following official prayer from the Roman Ritual: "Almighty God, we ask you to bless this salt, as once you blessed the salt scattered over the water by the prophet Elisha. Wherever this salt (and water) is sprinkled, drive away the power of evil, and protect us always by the presence of your Holy Spirit. Grant this through Christ our Lord Amen."] ----- We make that special request because the United States is nearing the denouement of a tragedy that began in the early part of the last century, grew tremendously during the 1960s (the catalytic decade), and reached a crescendo in the watershed year of 1973 -- when something crucial to America died. It may soon become a different country, permanently -- in the way it nearly did in the 1990s. It was 1973, of course, when abortion was legalized and it was the year that America became the stage for a massive "ritual," which only prayers can exorcise. There is no coincidence in the dark link. In days of old witches provided birth control and abortion as midwives through the use of herbs and later chemical potions and drugs. This was especially true in the Middle Ages, after Europe was scourged by bubonic plague. Somewhere, in the timeline, in the dark underside of population control, was the call of the witches. They go back to ancient Druids, and their practice of stirring potions or using drugs to hex or poison rivals was called "pharmakeia." It was in the early part of the twentieth century that a rebellious woman in New York named Margaret Sanger began work to control population and eventually founded Planned Parenthood. Sanger was a huge force behind development of the birth-control pill, and Planned Parenthood would become the biggest supporter -- and provider -- of abortion. She was also a Rosicrucian: the member of an occult organization that some date back to those Druidic and before that Babylonian times. In the 1960s, in addition to the birth-control pill (which Sanger helped to invent), was also another unknowing occult ritual: the altering of consciousness. Sanger -- who probably had little idea of the darkness controlling her -- had nothing to do with that. But it too had an occult connection. For use of drugs has long been known to medicine men and dervishes and shamans and like birth control pills, it became a staple of our culture by the 1970s, as did chemical contamination. Now, the entire society was involved in pharmakeia. There were other hidden occult aspects. There were the drums of rock and roll in the Sixties and Seventies, which often promoted carnal impulses. (In Africa and other lands, they use similar beats to "conjure" spirits.) There was the ritual of sex: occultists perform illicit acts as a rebellion against God, even on makeshift altars, and now it was known as the "sexual revolution." In pagan times, it was called "saturnalia"; it is a word Sanger's own ex-husband used in describing what she was really promoting. In occult rituals, obscene performances are watched by a group, and with pornography, we had that, too, in America, in a massive way: The year before 1973 was release of an epic x-rated movie starring a woman they called Linda Lovelace but would have been bettered named Loveless. Lost on so many is that 1973 was also the year the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality as a disorder. That put homosexuality on the track of acceptance, which we now face in its extreme in the move to gay marriage, which is also an issue this campaign season. The descent started with rebellious music, free sex, and the Pill, which made women independent of men (and vice versa), and involved millions of us. A bond was broken between men and women and divorce skyrocketed and there was cohabitation and radical feminism. There were "gay" rights. With abortion -- which allowed free sex by serving as a backstop (if even the Pill failed) -- fifty million babies would be killed. For most importantly, 1973 was the year the U.S. Supreme Court almost silently made the Roe v. Wade decision overturning state bans on abortion and opening the floodgate of blood in a way America had never seen before. The Court made its decision on January 22, and it was the same day former President Lyndon Johnson died and there was a heavyweight fight between Joe Frazier and George Foreman. Lost in the shuffle was a judicial act that has turned into the most nefarious act of any kind in American history. Two days later, President Richard Nixon reached the historic peace accord in Viet Nam. Intriguingly, it was also the year they opened the World Trade Center. Abortion was lost in the headlines but it was the most nefarious act in U.S. history and it can also be seen as a blood sacrifice: the sacrifice of the innocents. A massive ritual was set in place -- joining saturnalia and drugs and one that now takes us to a looming precipice. A counselor held the woman's hand, whispering words of comfort as she began to surface from a guided meditation. Then the doctor showed the woman a covered silver bowl that held the tiny remains of her six-week pregnancy. She curled her fingers around his, and her face, now damp with tears, softened as he began their ceremony of letting go," says one description. Wiccans, who consider abortion a "sacrament," are encouraged to work their magic on the area surrounding the clinic: "Finally, many individuals and groups have been helping to magically (sic) protect the building and property ... This has been done by magical and psychic shielding being put on and around the property...." says one manual. We must do the same -- with blessed salt, around voting booths, and of course the clinic themselves. For the U.S. is not the country we once knew, not since 1973. Soon, it may be yet dramatically different. If there is an R.I.P. on this great nation, it will include the pivotal year 1973, the year that the United States or something key to it died. A tragedy it is that extremely bright and talented politicians (on both sides) have been duped into supporting a practice with such dark implications, whether the fantastically odious sacrifice of late-term infants or the use of modern alchemy for cloning and embryonic research (micro-abortion). A great evil entered. A great evil must now be purged -- through prayer, through Mass, through sacramentals. There is now a chance that Roe not only will not be overturned, but that it will be codified by legislation. A nation that is on the cusp of having just enough justices to overturn Roe would be tossed back, perhaps permanently, into an abortion nation. America lost its innocence in 1973 -- turned to the dark side -- and it has never returned. Remember Ozzie and Harriet? Remember June Cleaver? It was the year in which the Sixties culminated. Is it the same country? Ask yourself honestly: Is it the America it was? How does it feel today? Is it a coincidence that 1973 was also the year of events that Watergate got into full swing and eventually led the first U.S. president to resign and that it was the year a strange musician indeed penned an album called Dark Side of the Moon and the movie of the year was American Graffiti -- as if already looking back? The year before, a singer named Don McLean sung an eerie ode called Bye Bye American Pie. Does America feel at all like it was in the 1950s, or in the early 1960s -- when it peaked? Does it have that same feel of cleanness? Or has it fallen victim to a huge unrecognized ritual? If you like, dismiss the notion of a ritual; simply see it as a metaphor. But ask yourself: How do we feel about others and ourselves since the Sixties and especially the pivotal year of 1973? And where are we headed? Spread the salt. Short of a miracle, the U.S. is on the verge of dissolution. This is the word: it will dissolve -- not just financially (that is only part of it), but through other events that will come without a drastic turnaround that at this point seems intangible but for the intervention of God Who can change anything.
