Allen Smith, 7 year old grandson of Mike and Melissa Smith, and great-nephew to Pam and Keith Walker, is in Memphis at St. Jude for his 8 month post-chemo check-up. We have just learned that the initial blood work does not look good. His doctor, Dr. Pui, is very concerned and feels that leukemia cells are back. He will be staying at St. Jude in the Grizzly House for now. This is, of course, a complete shock to family and friends. Please lift all concerned up in your prayers. Journal Monday, December 15, 2008 2:56 PM CST Prayers needed! Allen's checkup has not gone as planned. His blood work did not look good this morning so we repeated his labs. The repeat labs had even dropped more and Dr. Pui is very concerned with his platelet count. His platelets are low almost as low as they were day 1 in Feb. 2005. Because of this Allen is having an MRI to check his bone marrow in the morning. This will tell us everything. I have to say I think we need a miracle right now because Dr. Pui does think this is a relapse and was crying when he talked to us. It still could be some kind of virus that has affected counts. So we are all praying for a virus!! Brad is on his way to Memphis and we'll update after procedures tomorrow. P.S. I am trying to stay off my cell for two reasons. 1) is I don't want Allen to hear me talking about it all over and over and him getting nervous. 2) I don't want to have a breakdown in front of Allen and I will if I have to actually to talk to someone.
