Join the Bishops Postcard Campaign to Fight FOCA in your Parish U.S. Bishops postcard campaign to Congress to Fight FOCA The nation's Catholic bishops are sponsoring a nationwide postcard campaign on January 24 to send postcards to members of Congress urging them to oppose the so-called Freedom of Choice Act. Last year while campaigning, President-elect Obama promised Planned Parenthood it would be one of the first bills he would sign after taking office. The postcards will be distributed to parishes on the weekend of January 24 -25. What is the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)? 1. FOCA will invalidate any "statute, ordinance, regulation, administrative order, decision, policy, practice, or other action" of any federal, state, or local government or governmental official that would "deny or interfere with a woman's right to choose" abortion. 2. FOCA will require taxpayers to pay for abortions. 3. FOCA will require states to allow "partial-birth" and other late-term abortions. 4. FOCA will require states to allow abortions by non-physicians. 5. FOCA will bar laws protecting a right of conscientious objection to abortion. 6.
