For example, <http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/leviticus/leviticus18.htm>Leviticus 18:21, You shall not offer any of your offspring to be immolated to Molech, thus profaning the name of your God. I am the LORD. Child sacrifice to the false god Molech The New American Bible also comments, Immolated to Molech: the reference is to the Canaanite custom of sacrificing children to the god Molech. The little victims were first slain and then cremated. Now, the following is not meant to offend or hurt the millions of women who have had abortions and repented of this sin, or of the fathers who cooperated in the abortion and have repented also. May God forgive all this sin who have repented and confessed, and He have mercy on our souls. The first question is, why would the Canaanites or idolatrous Israelites sacrifice their children? For favor of the false god Molech? For a good harvest? For prosperous times? For health and growth in the community? Pick any selfish reason a parent might offer up an infant to Molech. The second question is, how does sacrificing a child to Molech for prosperity in ancient times differ from a woman aborting today? Ask many women who have had abortions or men who have agreed to a partner having one and you'll hear, * It's too early, I need to finish my education. Isn't an education a key to prosperity, therefore I must sacrifice this child for that key? * I can't have a child now, it'll hurt my career. That is, I'll lose money in the long run, so I'll sacrifice this child to protect my financial prospects. * A child will take up too much of my time. That is, my time is my own so I'll sacrifice this child for that time. * I'd prefer to have a child later. That is, I have something I want today, therefore I will sacrifice my child for that. You see? The Canaanites killed and burned their children to get ahead in life. Americans are doing the same. And behind any false god is Satan.
