volcano about to erupt
ANCHORAGE, Alaska, March 27 (UPI) -- Alaska's Mount Redoubt volcano
erupted Friday morning after two overnight explosions.

The eruptions sent ash 50,000 feet into the air and resulted in
cancellation of a number of flights into and out of Alaska, the
Anchorage Daily News reported.

The National Weather Service said that ash could fall in and around
Anchorage after the third eruption. The NWS had already declared an
ash advisory for Homer, Kenai, Soldotna, Cooper Landing, Willow,
Talkeetna and Cantwell, predicting up to 1/8 of an inch.

Mount Redoubt in the Aleutian Range 110 miles southwest of Anchorage
began erupting Sunday night. There were two eruptions earlier
Thursday that resulted in the cancellation of almost all commercial
flights in southwestern Alaska for the rest of the day.

The Federal Aviation Administration has restricted air traffic only
within 10 miles of the volcano. After the most recent eruptions, the
NWS issued an advisory for an area that includes the Cook Inlet.
