July 10, 2009 Issue 7, Vol 7 Greetings, Sue! First: We would like to thank all of you who have taken the time and trouble to let us know how much you enjoy the Halo-Works Newsletter. We received an unusual number of positive comments this past month. Since the Newsletter is completely volunteer in its contributions, we really appreciate the feedback. It gives all who write for the Newsletter that special "boost" that is nice to have once in a while! We are now into the Year of Priests, with the availability of Plenary Indulgences for both priests and lay people. Until June 18th, 2010, it is possible to gain a Plenary Indulgence (this is a "get out of Purgatory Free" pass) for yourself or someone in Purgatory simply by following these guidelines: Priests:1) Each day, they devotedly pray Lauds or Vespers before the Blessed Sacrament (either exposed or in the Tabernacle)2) Each day, they "offer themselves with a ready and generous heart for the celebration of the Sacraments (especially the Sacrament of Penance)3) Each day, they say the usual prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father, ie one Pater Noster (Our Father), one Ave Maria (Hail Mary) and one Gloria (Glory Be)4) Each day, they receive Holy Communion (which would naturally follow if they are offering Mass daily)5) Go to confession at least once a week6) Be completely detached from all sin, even venial sin. (see Fr. Tim Finigan's post on this: <http://the-hermeneutic-of-continuity.blogspot.com/2006/05/plenary-indulgences-not-impossible.html>Plenary Indulgences NOT Impossible"). Lay people may gain this indulgence on the Feast of St. Jean Vianney (August 4), on the opening and closing days of the Year of the Priest and once a month on the first Thursdays of the month by:1) Devotedly attend Mass and offer prayers to Christ the High Priest for the priests of the Churchorperform any good work to sanctify and mould priests to the Sacred Heart of Jesus2) Receive Holy Communion3) Offer the usual prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father, ie one Pater Noster (Our Father), one Ave Maria (Hail Mary) and one Gloria (Glory Be)4) Make a sacramental confession within "several days" of seeking to obtain a plenary indulgence (no more than 20 days)5) Be completely detached from all sin, even venial sin. (see Fr. Tim Finigan's post on this: <http://the-hermeneutic-of-continuity.blogspot.com/2006/05/plenary-indulgences-not-impossible.html>Plenary Indulgences NOT Impossible")and following the usual requirements for a Plenary Indulgence. (What are the "usual requirements"? Check the <http://www.halo-works.com/c=l63R3ITjAXwj8eXrNybW7ZBBD/s=halo-works.com/category/traditions_page>Traditions Page to learn more!) Remember, you can gain 1 Plenary Indulgence per person, per day and so large families can get many people out of Purgatory at a time! Thank You to <http://romansacristan.blogspot.com/2009/06/plenary-indulgences-in-year-of-priests.html>The Roman Sacristan for this information! We have lots of new Stuff! Browse our site for the newest statuary, Infant of Prague vestments (gorgeous!!!) books, and more! As always, these items come from the artists themselves, are individually crafted, and no two are exactly the same. Books are the exception, of course. Weather in the South-Central Valley of CA has gotten hot which means that Candle Shipments are still going out successfully, for the most part, but candle orders are at your own risk! For best results, always request Express shipping to minimize the amount of transit time to reduce the risk of melting. We have been so blessed as to have been given an awesome resource for truly orthodox sermons! Visit the <http://www.halo-works.com/c=Si1ZsdEnNbp5946JAnR52a7Xb/s=halo-works.com/category/traditions_page>Traditions Page and you'll see the link under "Hungry for a Good Sermon?" All of the sermons are outstanding, and among our favorites are the ones on the <http://www.audiosancto.org/auweb/20090628-Precious-Things-are-Always-Veiled.mp3>Precious Things are Always Veiled and the <http://www.audiosancto.org/sermon/20090614-Exhibiting-Proper-Respect-for-Christ-in-the-Most-Blessed-Sacrament.html>Exhibiting Proper Respect for Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament. So, Again: For those whose parishes don't have a Dress Code we saw this posted on the outside of the door at St. Joseph's Church in Hayden, AZ and then asked Fr. Dale Branson if we could share it with everyone: In order to ensure an atmosphere of reverence and respect due Our Blessed Lord; the Pastor and Parish Council of St. Josephs Catholic Church request that the following clothing styles not be worn inside for any reason:- No shorts of any length- No tank tops- No cleavage of any kind showing- No bare midriffs. Gently pull the wallpaper off the wall and wipe off the excess glue with a wet cloth. Here's another--I was told that if you paint liquid fabric softener onto your walls, it will soak through the paper and allow you to peel it off without hassle.Don't like weeding? (who does?) Use the leaves and grass clippings to mulch your garden. Be sure not to upset the ph balance with "extreme" leaves (like oak) but most trees are neutral enough. Don't mulch before the new growth comes up, but do mulch around the base of the established plants. This will also conserve water use, allow for softer soil, and fertilize the soil. Hand Crafted Statues from Columbia!! We are now carrying Statuary! Isn't this Sacred Heart Beautiful?! The products are handcrafted and painted by the artists, predominantly widows, in Colombia using goldleaf. They use Italian techniques to finish the pieces. There are available more than 300 different available models, including Holy Spirit, Madonnas, Divine Child, Candle Holders, and much more. We will be getting more of these designs as time goes by. We are so pleased to finally have affordable statuary available that is NOT made in China!!! As many of you know, our mission policy forbids us to support the slave labor and forced abortions, as well as the religious persecution that is rife within that country. What we have selected to represent at this time is a small part of the actual selection available, so if you have a particular statue you are looking for, please let us know and we'll find out if they carry it! <http://cts.vresp.com/c/?HaloWorks/fd4ba81d16/71035de7e8/64f9a55901>Shop Now! <http://cts.vresp.com/c/?HaloWorks/fd4ba81d16/71035de7e8/64f9a55901> Image Our Troop Support Project.... <http://cts.vresp.com/c/?HaloWorks/fd4ba81d16/71035de7e8/7d6194f3f5> Image "Our Chaplain" has informed us that he is returning Stateside to home, but he has passed the Halo-Works Troop Support project to the next chaplain coming in. The Latin Mass: Explained "What is going on up there?" Whispered words from those visiting the Latin Mass, now known as the Extraordinary Form, very often go unanswered. Why? Because the missal everyone is using does require some basic formation in Liturgy on the part of the faithful, which (as our Holy Father has said) very often is lacking. This invaluable book, great for those who attend regularly as well as those who would like to attend --but want to know what they're doing before attendance,-- is written in a very complete, easy-to-understand way that is organized and interesting all at the same time. Beginning with what Sacrifice is, to what it meant to the Patriarchs, to how it relates between the Cross and the Altar, this book goes on to teach what necessaries are used for the Mass, what the vestments mean, and every detail of the altar and Mass are explained. A Catechism in and of itself, you will learn much of the Church's roots and reasons simply by reading this book. 191 pgs <http://cts.vresp.com/c/?HaloWorks/fd4ba81d16/71035de7e8/c84b50d6c3>Shop Now Daniel's Corner Summer apparel Okay, I’m going to start off by saying I don’t have a beach body. In fact, the closest water related object you could compare me to would be that of a blue whale. However, I would also like to say this; I do not swim with my shirt on. See, there is this misconception that men who are chunkier around their belly can hide it by wearing a shirt. In all actuality, however, after the fabric has been immersed in whatever body of water you choose, every outline you possess is then highlighted, underlined, put in quotation marks, and otherwise held up for the world to see. However, on the opposite end of the spectrum I’d like to say that men with slimmer bodies, for the love of all things Holy, please don’t wear a speedo. No offense, but you really do look like a wooly mammoth in a rubber band. No, you’re not showing off your ‘awesome lines’, you’re not showing how tough and manly you are. You’re wearing a bikini bottom and making the beach non-family-friendly.Now ladies (yes, it's your turn), it is good for you to know that tankini's are really more becoming than bikini's (yes, I am actually saying this) since men really do enjoy use of the imagination. I would like to tell all of those girls who lay out next to the pool that you are near water, and should water hit your perfectly dry two-piece, you’re getting what you paid for. I can't help but roll my eyes when I see women laying out next to the pool in their brand-new-for-this-summer-swimsuit and some child splashes them on accident. You would think someone has just dumped a bucket of ice on them, with the acrobatics they do jumping out of the chairs while glaring in the direction of the pool – which they happen to be sittting right next to.So, in conclusion, large men, please remove your shirts before entering the pool. And for some added humor, make sure to cannon-ball right in front of the women in bikini’s laying right next to it. <http://cts.vresp.com/c/?HaloWorks/fd4ba81d16/71035de7e8/becae6fd1f>Email Daniel In case you were wondering if we sell our email addresses, Sue, we want you to know that no, we don't buy (or sell) lists of any kind--whether it's your email address or your personal contact information.
