One particularly annoying thing is that AirPort drops ~30% of packets making it unusable (I installed all updates, still doesn't work). For now I am back to a regular ethernet cable (plugged to the same wireless router; never looses a single packet), but I wonder if there is a solution to that? Everything I found on the internet is mostly random and doesn't really work.
Did you check the firmware on the access point? My AP actually had a firmware upgrade not too long ago that specifically addressed AirPort problems. Not being cool enough to actually own a MacBook, I have no clue if those problems are the same as your problems :) Cris
