I don't agree. I think there is a rule (an unwritten usability principle) that says this is unnecessarily confusing. In FreeBSD developers have a concept they call "principal of least astonishment" (POLA). In other words, do things that will not surprise your users.

I don't see how it would it would surprise anyone. All it's doing is allowing two different paths to the same information and allowing people to follow paths that meet their particular expectations. I'll read up on POLA though to see how it might be applicable. I'm always interested in HCI lessons.
