Today, from about 9:00am to 11:30am, I spent time wandering around the
Hawthorn Orchard in search of migrants. The wind made it difficult to locate
individuals, but I managed to see and hear a few birds. Below are the
details of what was there this morning:

1 Belted Kingfisher (flyover)

1 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER (in mid-NW section of the Hawthorn Orchard - its
soft "chew-wee" calls alerted me to its presence; aside from the other notes
on this bird in my previous message, this bird had a very broad and pale
lower mandible and generally a much more yellowish cast to the belly and
breast feathers, as compared to the Least Flycatchers)
8-9+ LEAST FLYCATCHERS (seemed to be everywhere; quite vocal, giving very
frequent "whit" notes and chasing each other around; obvious white wingbars
and noticeable eyerings)
1 Great Crested Flycatcher
2 Warbling Vireos
1 Red-eyed Vireo
1 Red-breasted Nuthatch (in the middle of the H.O.)
3-4 House Wrens
3-4 Ruby-crowned Kinglets
1 Eastern Bluebird
5-6 American Robins
(Zero other thrushes!)
10-12 Gray Catbirds
1 Northern Mockingbird
10-12 European Starlings
9-10 Cedar Waxwings

3-4 TENNESSEE WARBLERS (some sporadic singers, although, most activity was
near tall Oak in NW corner with 2-3 birds giving soft "seet" notes - at
least one female and one male seen well here; another singer in mid-West
side, also seen well)
1 Nashville Warbler (singing SW of H.O.)
1 Northern Parula (singing mid-West side)
10-12 Yellow Warblers
3-4 Chestnut-sided Warblers
6-8 Magnolia Warblers
3-4 Yellow-rumped Warblers
1 BAY-BREASTED WARBLER (male, seen briefly in mid-NW corner, near
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher; non-vocal)
2 American Redstarts
4-5 Common Yellowthroats
1 WILSON'S WARBLER (initially in SW portion of H.O., then relocated to the
South of the H.O., by gravel path leading from EIRW up to playing field;
singing sporadically)

1 Scarlet Tanager
4-5 Song Sparrows
2-3 White-throated Sparrows
6-8 Northern Cardinals
1-2 Indigo Buntings (flight notes in NE corner of H.O.)
6-8 Red-winged Blackbirds
6-8 Common Grackles
3-4 Baltimore Orioles
1 House Finch (flyover)
6-8 American Goldfinches
3-4 House Sparrows

Good birding!

Sincerely,
Chris T-H
