Subject: Montezuma on Columus Day, Nelson Sparrow, Gt White fronted Goose etc.* From: "fiveshrimps" <fiveshrimps AT yahoo.com> Date: Tue, 11 Oct 2011 13:22:44 -0000 I birded Montezuma yesterday (Columbus Day) starting at Martens Tract then making my way to Towpath Rd, the Visitor Center, Main drive and Mays Point pond. Highlights included my lifer Nelson Sparrow (Martens Tract at 8:10 AM), Merlin, 3 Wilson's Snipe and Ring necked Pheasant (Martens Tract), 1 Am. Avocet, 12 Red Knot (buzzed Puddlers and Knox Marcellus), 1 Cackling Goose, 1 Wilson's Warbler, 1 Field Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow, and a Peregrine mobbing a Bald Eagle (Towpath), 1 Gr White fronted Goose (Visitor center), 3 Long billed Dowitcher (Mays Point pond). Sandhill crane at three locations. No Red Phalarope. Good birding!
