Several years of stakeouts finally paid off when I got a good look at a SHORT-EARED OWL (very light underside, buffy patches prominent on distal parts of upper wing) cruising over a field along Hart Rd. (Town of Dryden). Field was just across the road from the gravel pit and near the George Jr. pond. Showed up at 1655. This general area should be a good place for them; just wish the viewing window was longer.
