My feeder hangs from the soffit outside my kitchen window. No ant or squirrel
problems. I was surprised a couple yrs. ago to have a downy sit on the perch &
sip from the openings. I wish I had noted if it was a hot, drought time.
Certainly they need liquids when it's so hot & they've had no rain water to sip
... or for "showers". Hummers & even tree swallows seem to appreciate the fine
mist blowing on them if I'm watering flowers. Fritzie, Union Springs

At our house downy woodpeckers are drinking the water from the “ant moat” that
the hummingbird feeder hangs from.
