you dint have to go through the trouble of converting to decimal just by looking at the mac addresses, you can tell which one is lower
it's the same principle of decimal numbers to know which is larger that one uses here examining the BIDs alone, you can see that there are 3 leading zeros for the 000a.... and there are 2 leading zeros for the other one and they have exactly the same number of digits. By intuition alone, you know which is greater... exactly the same way 00325 is greater than 00098. Using a calculator here is overkill... because all you want to know is which number is greater hope you understand this On Tue, Nov 3, 2009 at 7:54 PM, Syed Zaidi <[email protected]> wrote: > I would like to know if we can derive the lowest MAC address in the below > mentioned way , I mean, of course with a windows scientific calculator. > bridge ID: 0019.069c.80e0 -> converting it into decimal gives us -> > 107485102304 > bridge ID: 000a.8a4b.a400 -> converting it into decimal gives us -> > 45269885952 -> This one is has the lower MAC address value. > Regards, > Syed > _______________________________________________ > For more information regarding industry leading CCIE Lab training, please > visit www.ipexpert.com > > _______________________________________________ For more information regarding industry leading CCIE Lab training, please visit www.ipexpert.com
