i find the implied connectivity sometimes hard to figure out, if i take
assignments literally. or maybe it's just experience. It seems it suits one
well to have a certain order in the things they do for every assignment. For
example, in
lab 8 , vol1 8.2 is is expected that i advertise these new loopbacks, because
if i don't, and i advertise the summary route first, the network 172.1.0.0
statement is not doing much on R1, probably because the /22 more specific
summary route is already in the routing tables of the other routes. I removed
the summary and switched that around(i.e. first putting in the network
statement, then the summary), and presto it works, i get both the 172.1.0.0/24
invidual routes as well as the /22. But if that were true, would the newer
routing updates not just remove the /24 routes in favor of the /22 summary
route? It doesn't seem like it does? Is the reverse not true?

in addition, i was wondering, can i not just not advertise the new loopbacks
network and just create the summary, that would be a lot less hassle ? Or is it
expected that i advertise the new loopbacks and then install the summary route.

questions, questions!
