I would think it's just to be in line with the other manufactures as
most of them have this address set as a default. As long as it's a pip
it wouldn't make any difference what one they used but if they always
use the same its easer for the end user and doc writers

Just my to cent

defaultip address of 192.168.1.1

Hi Faisal,

Thank you very much ...I should have made the question clearer,I am
trying to understand the significance of specifically using the address
192.168.1.1 instead of 192.168.1.2 ...

Kindly let me know ..Thanks for the help

hi ,

It is done so that we can go ahead and access the ASA through the
ASDM, if you have a look at the startup guide it has instructions on how
you can you can do the initial setup on the ASA without a console cable,
the ASA has an inside IP address, and the inside interface would
work as a dhcp server that would assign an IP address to any computer
that connects to it..
once you access the asdm you can go ahead and use the wizard for vpn
and other configurations.

this ways you dont need a console to connect to the firewall and use
command line at all...

        Hi All,

I was going through the ASA config guide and understood that
when the ASA is in factory default configuration, the inside interface or
the management ip address would be 192.168.1.1/24 depending on the
platform. Is there any specific significance of that particular ip
address is been used for that.

        Thanks for the help
