If you don't specify the timezone then the time on the router will be set to
timezone and the ASA will be UTC (or GMT).

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Security] NTP Clarification

Hello,

I am studying for the CCIE written exam and I have the following question. I
just configured a router to be the NTP server with an ASA being the NTP
client with the following config:

Router

Interface fa0/0

 ntp broadcast

router1(config)#do sh run | inc ntp

ntp authentication-key 1 md5 02050D480809 7

ntp authenticate

ntp trusted-key 1

ntp source FastEthernet0/0

ntp master 5

ASA

ciscoASA(config)# sh run | inc ntp

ntp authentication-key 1 md5 *

ntp authenticate

ntp trusted-key 1

ntp server 81.1.1.2 key 1 source outside prefer

I was able to get it to work but is it obligatory to configure the timezone
settings on the ASA as it is the client? I did configured the timezone
settings on the router as it is acting as the NTP server on the lab network.

Thank you
