"free" - Rancid
"middle" Orion/Solerwinds NCM
"classy" "CiscoWorks SM/RME

Result is same for all three. You are paying for product ease of use, vendor support, etc. We use NCM/NPM and really like it. We have a variety of vendor products so anything pure Cisco will not work.

"Industry standard" depends very much on who you ask. Cisco would probably tell you the best method is to use Ciscoworks Security Manager, which uses Resource Manager Essentials to backup and store configs. This is not inexpensive.

Other options are Solarwinds NCM or the open-source Rancid. At $DAYJOB we currently use Rancid to backup approx. 50 ASA's every 4 hours but are in the process of moving to NCM.
