Hi Mike,

The backup default route is a floating route hence you should configure a
higher admin distance that the primary default route else both the default
routes get installed in the routing table. By default the AD value for a static
route is 1.

Hi Samarh;

It makes sense now, I have a couple of friends studying for R&S and they kinda
told me how to configure it but didnt quite catch the idea. It makes sense now.

I dont recall if the backup route had a lower AD (for SLA minitor) but in any
case Based on ur explanation the Null route has to have lower AD than both
static configured routes is that correct?

Also, is the DSG for this already released? (Just asking, i kinda like not
having it right now to see how bad I am doing :))

Thanks

Hi Mike:

This is a bit tricky question. By default the admin distance of EIGRP summary
route has an AD of 5. If your floating static route (backup default has AD
above 5 say 222 or even 6). When Outside-1 goes down. The default null route
of EIGRP gets installed which has an AD of 5 and not the Outside-2 default.
Hence to avoid this situation we shall increase the AD of the summary EIGRP
route above the floating static default.

Alternate approach, keep the floating static default of Outside-2 with an AD
below the AD of EIGRP summary route.

Test it out by shutting P1.34 interface. DSG has these captured.

route Outside-2 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 100.100.35.5 222

summary-address eigrp 111 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 250

Hi,

I do have some questions in regards to that specific point. It says that I need
to send the default route to Router 1 (Which I already did to practice prefix
lists :)) but it also says that change the distance of the null route to 250
and that is where I get confused.

Is the null route the default route? Also, is that route the same one that it
is being advertised? I saw that I can change the distance, but only for routes
inserted on our routing table.

Was looking also for the DSG of Workbook 1 but it seems like it is not finished
already.

Thanks,

Mike.
