A postdoctoral position is available. The project is structural studies of two related large membrane protein complexes that are involved in bacterial surface adhesin secretion and bacterial pilus biogenesis. We employ a combined approach of X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM). Highly motivated, energetic individuals with training and experience in protein biochemistry and crystallography, but wish to extend his/her skills to cryo-EM, should apply. Cryo-EM is suited to study large protein machines at medium resolution without the need for crystallization. Cryo-EM plays an increasing important role in contemporary molecular and cellular biology.
