POST-DOCTORAL
POSITION IN CRYO-ELECTRON MICROSCOPY/PROTEIN CRYSTALLOGRAPHY,
UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND, BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position combining protein crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), in the laboratory of A/Prof Bostjan Kobe, Federation Fellow at the School of Molecular and Microbial Sciences (SMMS) and the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB), University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
The main area of study will involve the structural characterization of macromolecular assemblies in macrophages, cells with important roles in the immune response and chronic inflammatory diseases. The successful applicant will be supervised jointly by A/Prof Bostjan Kobe and Dr Ben Hankamer. Experience in single particle analysis cryo-EM and protein crystallography is desirable.
The salary will be according to qualifications and experience, starting at AUD$55,544. The most suitable starting date is January 2006, but earlier or later starting dates due to the applicant's circumstances can be accommodated.
University of Queensland is one of Australia's top universities. SMMS combines the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology into a single academic unit. SMMS and IMB are situated in the beautiful St. Lucia campus on the Brisbane River.
State-of-the art equipment is available for all aspects of the work, including state-of-the-art equipment for cryo-EM (including Tecnai 300kV cryo-electron microscope with field emission gun (FEG) linked to 4k X 4k Gatan UltraScan CCD camera and FEI Vitrobot single particle freezing equipment) and X-ray crystallography (including FR-E X-ray generator /R-axis IV++ X-ray detectors and Mosquito crystallization robot).
Brisbane has been voted Australia's most liveable city and has a great subtropical climate. It is only a short drive from Australia's best beaches and provides opportunities for all sorts of outdoors and cultural activities.
Further information may be obtained from Bostjan Kobe (telephone: 07-3365-2132, email [EMAIL PROTECTED]).
