To purify, concentrate and crystallize the enzyme, buffer that contained 10% glycerol, 1 M NaCl, 250 mM KCl and 300 mM arginine was used. The ratio of salts and glycerol used was optimized for best crystal growth; concentration of the enzyme to 20 mg/ml was impossible without this buffer.

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone's had any experience using arginine as a
crystallization additive, and generally as a useful chemical to prevent
aggregation of globular, but sticky proteins. The paper that set us thinking
about is: Journal of Chromatography A, 1094 (2005) 49 - 55.

Thanks in advance for any tip and advice,

Luca
