We don't have Intel Macs yet, but putting the following lines in our OS X shell setup has kept us out of such trouble (we work on virus capsids among other things):

unlimit
limit coredumpsize 0

Running limit command shows this:

> limit
cputime         unlimited
filesize        unlimited
datasize        unlimited
stacksize       65536 kbytes
coredumpsize    0 kbytes
memoryuse       unlimited
descriptors     10240
memorylocked    unlimited
maxproc         100

Perhaps the Intel machines have different defaults?

Hi Folks,

Sorry - not *quite* a ccp4 question...

I have configured and built (I think) CCP4 6.0 on an intel mac, but I am finding that the run-all script programs fail due to what looks to be memory problems. I have found that ulimit -d unlimited works but ulimit -s unlimited doesn't - there is a hard limit of 8 MB apparently.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? I have googled around a lot…

Thanks,

Graeme
