EMMA doesn't pay any attention to connectivity. It moves each atom
individually. I guess if you are lucky the CA only trick can work, but EMMA
isn't really designed for this purpose.
Phaser uses a different algorithm (it just calls some of the very same
functions used by EMMA). I am not sure if Phaser's superposition algorithm can
be used in isolation. Maybe Randy can tell us?
