Protein Crystallographer Position (Post-Doc)

A position for a crystallographer at the post-doc level is available in Dr. Kirill Alexandrov’s research group at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Physiology (Dortmund, Germany). The lab is focused on the development of new approaches for the production and biophysical analysis of posttranslationally modified proteins and multiprotein complexes. As the primary model system we use the molecular machinery regulating intracellular vesicular traffic with an emphasis on RabGTPase interacting and modifying proteins. The laboratory closely collaborates with the chemistry department at the same institute and the industry on several projects. Details of ongoing research and recent publications can be found under http://www.mpi-dortmund.mpg.de/departments/dep3/alexandr_rak/01/01.html .

We are seeking a PhD graduate to determine the crystal structures of several important protein complexes. Candidates should have experience in crystal structure determination as well as an interest in the biophysics of protein:protein interaction. The position provides an outstanding training program in protein biochemistry, structure and molecular biology in a generously funded, dynamic, and team-oriented research program.

The MPI has outstanding facilities for molecular biology; protein expression, purification, and biochemistry; and protein crystallography. The department of Physical Biochemistry has large expertise in analysis of biomolecular interactions using fluorescent spectroscopy and other major biophysical methods. The candidate is expected to benefit form the automated high-throughput protein production platform that is being established as a part of Systems Biology initiative at the MPI. Computer and hardware support are provided by core facilities and by a group leader level X-ray specialist.

The position is available for 2 years initially. Housing and other living expenses in Dortmund are very reasonable.

Please send your CV, a summary of research experience and interests, and names, addresses, e-mail and telephone numbers of 3 references to the address given below. E-mail applications will be preferred.
