Position Description: Talented protein crystallographer needed for our Structural Biology group. Provide X-ray crystallography support to protein and small molecule drug discovery and development. Obtain structures of protein-ligand complexes for structure-based drug design, structural analysis of protein drug candidates and proteins playing key roles in human disease, as well as of antibody-antigen and other protein-protein complexes to support protein engineering efforts or help elucidate biological function. Participate in project teams and obtain, analyze and interpret structures and communicate results. Requires a broadly-trained crystallographer whose skills include: design of protein constructs for crystallization, cloning, _expression_, and purification of proteins; protein crystallization and optimization (knowledge of crystallization robotics is a plus); structure determination by molecular replacement, MIR and MAD methods; experience with data collection in the laboratory and at the synchrotron; experience with a variety of computational programs (HKL, CCP4, CNX, SOLVE, etc); the ability to interpret and communicate structural information.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related discipline, with concentration in protein crystallography and 0-3 years relevant postdoctoral experience. Familiarity with all techniques and hardware/software relevant to designing protein constructs for crystallization, obtaining crystals and solving protein and protein-ligand complex structures. Must be a team player with strong leadership and communication skills.
