A two years postdoctoral position *in the field of Biosciences* is available immediately at The Structural Biology and Chemistry group of the *Institute** of **Organic** and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (IOPC). The position is funded by the approved programme “INTEGRATION of PhD researchers from abroad in **Greece**’s R & D system ENTER- programme 2004-04ER70” and is co-funded by Pfizer Co. Croton, **USA**. (10%) (title: Control of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. Inhibitors of glycogen phosphorylase and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase as potential hypoglycaemic drugs**)*

* *The applicants should hold a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Protein Chemistry or Structural Biology/ Chemistry and have experience in molecular biology techniques, protein expression and purification, kinetic assays and crystallization techniques, crystallographic data collection and crystallographic analysis (desirable).

The selection of the successful candidate is a two step procedure. After reviewing of all the CVs, the selected one will be submitted to the Greek General secretariat of R & D. for the necessary final approval before the appointment.

ENTER aims to attract researchers from abroad and integrate them, for a definite period of time, into the national research infrastructure. The main objective is a) to pursue technology and know-how transfer from the international research community to Greek research entities and vice versa and b) to enhance international research networks. The research work aims towards understanding of the molecular basis for the
recognition of small organic molecules by enzymes that play a central role in the regulation of blood glucose levels (for further information please visit the website of the Structural Biology and Chemistry <http://www.eie.gr/nhrf/institutes/iopc/researchgroups/sbc-group/sbc-group-en.html> group of IOPC <http://www.eie.gr/nhrf/institutes/iopc/index-en.html> -. The proposed research is anticipated to contribute to the discovery of new compounds for therapeutic intervention in type 2 Diabetes.

The eligibility criteria for the potential applicants are:

· To hold a Ph.D. degree, that meets the requirements for recognition by the Greek competent authority (DIKATSA) and proven research activity following the Ph.D. graduation.

· To have a proven a remarkable performance and to have developed at international level, research activity relevant to the proposed project, after the receipt of the doctorate degree.

· If the applicant is Greek national, he must have fulfilled his military obligations before the project’s lasting period, or he should have been legally absolved, or he should have received a legal deferment till the end of the project. **

· Individuals, who have resided in Greece for more than 3 continuous months in the last 2 years preceding the appointment, are excluded from the submission of a proposal.

· The candidate must be committed to the exclusive occupation in the project.**

* *The appointment will be for *24 months*. The total maximum monthly compensation of the researcher, including full labour and insurance costs, is up to 2.500 euros for all specialties (approx. net salary 1300 euros).
