MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge

Robotic Crystallisation Scientist

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology operates a shared high-throughput
facility for the crystallisation of biological macromolecules. We have
been at the forefront of this exciting technology since 2001 when we
installed one of the first non-contact nanolitre robots in the UK and we
have recently introduced a very successful new microtitre crystallisation
plate. Our platform currently serves more than 70 users and has produced
many high-profile structures, including the highest resolution structure
of the 70S ribosome. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a highly
motivated individual to help with users' crystallisation experiments,
continued development, especially in the areas of visualisation, LIMS
automation and crystallisation formats as well as day-to-day running of
the facility. The three components (support, development and management)
are expected to occupy about equal time of this position, creating a
unique opportunity to participate in method development as well as
supporting world-class Structural Biology at the LMB. For further
information about our platform, please consult:
http://www2.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk/SS/Lowe_J/group/WWWrobots/robot.html.

You will have a relevant university degree, good attention to detail and
enjoy problem solving as well as training users in the use of the robotic
equipment. Experience with the crystallisation of biological
macromolecules is desirable and an aptitude to run, maintain and develop
complex equipment would be advantageous. The appointment will be to MRC
salary Band 4 with a starting salary in the range GBP 24,746 - 30,945 per
annum (depending on qualifications and experience) supported by a
flexible pay and reward system. We offer a highly attractive benefits
package including 30 days annual leave, final salary pension scheme,
Creche/nursery, car parking and on-site sports and social facilities.
Applications should include a full CV with the contact details of two
professional referees who can be contacted prior to interview. Please
quote job reference SS/906/5 and e-mail your application to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or post to the Recruitment Office, Personnel
Department, MRC Centre, Hills Road, Cambridge CB2 2QH. Closing date: 12th
October 2006 This is a No Smoking site. For further information about

Opportunities Employer.
