The Finnish national protein crystallisation facility is located in the
Institute of Biotechnology at University of Helsinki. The unit hosts two
liquid dispensing robots (Hamilton STAR and Cartesian Microsys), a plate
reader microscope and an oracle database which are all integrated under
one software package. The unit has an ongoing external project where the
current position will be filled.
Institute of Biotechnology, automated protein crystallisation unit
invites applications for a
Postdoctoral Researcher
with effect from 1.1.2007 to 31.12.2007 (project).
The post doctoral scientist will be in charge of the practical testing
and tool development for the project. In addition the person is in
charge of the necessary integration software adjustments for the project
as well as maintenance of the oracle database and a Windows server. We
also assume understanding and development of the protein crystallisation
unit together with the rest of the team.
You should have a PhD degree and suitable background in biological or
bio-computing field. We will train you for the special needs of the
project, but previous experience with proteins or protein
crystallisation will help. Experience with automation, oracle data
bases, programming in C/C++ and different computing environments
(windows, linux, Mac) is a plus. We expect you to fit well into team
work and able to report your work both orally and in good written English.
