Well... thanks for your suggestion but of course I tried that as well,
and the result is the same. In this case the icon on the dock bounces
a couple of times and then disappears with no ccp4mg running
whatsoever.
Surely in this way the error message doesn't show up!
I think my issue may be related to the same as documented on:
http://www.ysbl.york.ac.uk/~ccp4mg/linux_diagnostic.html
even though that seems specific for linux.
Following the instructions in the file ccp4mg/lib/GLBrokenDriver_db.py
I put in there the following line about my hardware specs:
['MacOSX','ATI Radeon X1600 OpenGL Engine','2.0 ATI-1.4.40','Yes']
But so far with no luck. I keep getting the same error message.
Thanks for the replies.

Just double-click the application in Finder.

Any hints would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot,

Dear Enrico,
What version of ccp4mg is this? I think this was a bug introduced
quite recentyl, but I believe I fixed it also. You should not edit
the broken driver db. Please first try the version at
www.ysbl.york.ac.uk/~ccp4mg/download-1.0 which was new on Friday. If
this still fails, please send me the contents of the files ~/.CCP4MG/
ccp4mg_stderr.txt and ~/.CCP4MG/ccp4mg_stdout.txt to see if I can
tell what is wrong from them.
Best Wishes,
Stuart McNicholas
