Hi Derek et al.

you only get this "error" when you are not yet running X11. Just try this, click the ccp4mg button , then X11 will pop up, then click again ccp4mg and it will startup as you would expect

If you have X11 already actively running then the ccp4mg window will appear with only one click.

Hi,

Did you ever get to the bottom of this problem with ccp4mg? I get exactly the same problem as Enrico, on an Intel Mac (MacBook Pro), with the CCP4mg version of 7th December downloaded yesterday. I would gladly send the contents of the files you suggest, but they are not created!

Cheers
Derek

Well... thanks for your suggestion but of course I tried that as well,
and the result is the same. In this case the icon on the dock bounces
a couple of times and then disappears with no ccp4mg running whatsoever.
Surely in this way the error message doesn't show up!
I think my issue may be related to the same as documented on:
http://www.ysbl.york.ac.uk/~ccp4mg/linux_diagnostic.html
even though that seems specific for linux.
Following the instructions in the file ccp4mg/lib/ GLBrokenDriver_db.py
I put in there the following line about my hardware specs:
['MacOSX','ATI Radeon X1600 OpenGL Engine','2.0 ATI-1.4.40','Yes']
But so far with no luck. I keep getting the same error message.

Thanks for the replies.

Just double-click the application in Finder.

Dear Dr. Scott,
sorry to bother you with my problems,
I thought you could have seen this before,

Have you ever seen this?

After the automatic installation from the universal binary .dmg file
(version 1.0) this is all I get. And I'm running an intel machine
where all the rest run smoothly (perfectly I would say).
Any hints would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot,

Dear Enrico,
What version of ccp4mg is this? I think this was a bug introduced quite recentyl, but I believe I fixed it also. You should not edit the broken driver db. Please first try the version at www.ysbl.york.ac.uk/~ccp4mg/download-1.0 which was new on Friday. If this still fails, please send me the contents of the files ~/.CCP4MG/ccp4mg_stderr.txt and ~/.CCP4MG/ccp4mg_stdout.txt to see if I can tell what is wrong from them.

Best Wishes,
Stuart McNicholas
