UNIX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
GRADE 7 (GBP27,466 - GBP33,780)

An outstanding opportunity for a systems administrator to join the
high-profile, internationally excellent research environment, at the
Division of  Biological Chemistry and Drug Discovery in the College of
Life Sciences, University of Dundee (http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk).

Several research groups in the Division maintain extensive Linux/Mac
infrastructures that ranges from high performance servers to desktop
workstations. A key responsibility will be the management of the
Linux/Mac-based high performance compute servers and desktop machines
within the Division. Other responsibilities will be maintenance of
internal web services, an Oracle database and occasional contributions
to research-related computing projects. In addition you will maintain
interactions with the College’s IT and High Performance Computing group.
 You will have a strong background in Linux as well as Mac workstation
technology. Previously you may have worked either as a systems
administrator or perhaps have a background in science with a
demonstrable interest in computing. Training will be provided as required.

Key Skills/Experience:
 - Linux Systems (RedHat/Centos)
 - Mac OSX
 - Strong skills in at least one scripting language, e.g. perl, python,
   ruby
 - LDAP Directory Systems
 - Network services such as DNS, DHCP, SNMP, NFS
 - Maintenance of web servers

Desirable Skills/Experience will include:
 - Storage Area Network Management particularly IBM DS4000 and Brocade
   switches
 - Security management within an agile environment
 - Cluster/GRID computing (SUN Grid Engine, Parallel File Systems e.g.
   GPFS)
 - Experience with ORACLE
 - Affinity with scientific research, in particular in one of the Life
   Sciences
