Beamline Scientist position at Diamond Light Source (UK)

A permanent position as beamline scientist in the MX group at Diamond
Light Source is now available. We currently have 3 operational tuneable
MX beamlines, with a tuneable microfocus beamline and a fixed wavelength
beamline becoming operational during the next year.

We are looking for a crystallographer who wants to take part in everyday
life at the synchrotron and with technical interest/experience. Our main
focus is of course to provide the best possible beamlines to our user
community; hence responsibilities include beamline development and
operation together with the existing beamline team of scientists and
technicians.

In-house research is important for the MX group and the position offers
involvement in a range of interesting projects depending on interests,
e.g. structural biology projects, improving endstation design and
functionality, software developments, automated data processing, kappa
goniometry, crystal dehydration, spectroscopy.

We are located in Oxfordshire at the Harwell Science and Innovation
Campus, next door to the MRC led Research Complex at Harwell (opening in
2009), ISIS neutron source, the Central Laser Facility, and other
specialised institutions. We are also keen to collaborate with other
Diamond beamlines and promote "cross beamline" projects.

In addition, we have well-equipped laboratories for structural biology
projects and collaborate with the Membrane Protein Laboratory at
Diamond, a collaboration between Imperial College London and Diamond,
funded by the Wellcome Trust. We have already established a number of
membrane protein projects, focusing on transporters, but it is also
possible to start own projects.
