Postdoctoral Fellowship in Structural Biology
EMBL site:

EMBL Grenoble
Commencing date:

January 2010
Job description:

The Berger laboratory at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)
Grenoble, France seeks to recruit an outstanding postdoctoral scientist in
structural biology with a research focus directed towards the structure of
macromolecular assemblies. The major theme within the group is the structural
molecular biology of multiprotein complexes in gene expression. For this
purpose, we are also very active in the development and implementation of
advanced and automated recombinant expression technologies such as the MultiBac
and ACEMBL systems (Berger et al., Nature Biotechnol. 2004, Fitzgerald et al.,
Nature Methods 2006, Bieniossek et al., Nature Methods 2009). More information
can be obtained from http://www.embl.fr/research/unit/berger/index.html.

The laboratory is well-situated in a structural biology environment at the
Polygone Scientifique in Grenoble. Access to synchrotron X-ray radiation
(ESRF), and also to modern biophysical instrumentation (surface plasmon
resonance, dynamic light scattering, isothermal calorimetry, and analytical
ultracentrifugation) is provided. Complementary collaborations with leading
laboratories in the field are in place.
Qualifications
and experience:

We are looking for candidates who hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related
field, with a strong background in molecular biology and protein biochemistry.
The ideal applicant has experience in guiding structure determination projects
from start to finish; experience in expressing and purifying protein complexes
and/or X-ray crystallography would be advantageous. The candidate is a highly
motivated individual who enjoys working in a collaborative and
multidisciplinary team. Good communication and interpersonal skills are further
required.
Contract:

An initial contract of 2 years will be offered to the successful candidate.
This can be renewed depending on circumstances at the time of review.
