The coordinators of the Graduate Programs in Biochemistry-Immunology and Physiology-Pharmacology of the Institute of Biological Sciences, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais will accept applications during the period of June 1st to July 30th, 2010, to fill the position of "Research Fellow" to participate, within the context of "The FAPEMIG/CAPES Academic and Technical Agreement for creating the New Knowledge Fellowship", in the project entitled "Novel strategies for the study of the structure-function relationship of complexes between ligands and membrane proteins". 1. To apply, the candidate must present the following documents: a) Proof of completion of a Ph.D. b) "Curriculum Vitae" c) Working plan, related to the theme of the above mentioned project d) A statement from the candidate, explaining the scientific challenge of the proposal and his/her contribution to the project e) Two letters of recommendation (preferentially referring to the experience of the candidate to the activities of interest to the project) 2. The candidate must I. present a completely innovative and challenging proposal at the frontier of knowledge II. have extensive experience in areas related to those of the above-mentioned project III. possess a background and previous experience compatible with the use of at least one of the following techniques: i) cloning and expression of protein; ii) techniques of crystallization of ligandmembrane protein complexes; iii) optical and magnetic spectroscopic methods (fluorescence, circular dichroism, NMR) for the study of ligand-protein interactions; iv) techniques for purification of membrane protein; v) biochemical/immunological methods for the identification of ligand-membrane protein complexes and functional studies. The registration can be performed at the Secretary of the Graduate Program in Biochemistry-Immunology (address below) on the period of June 1st to July 30th, 2010 (10:00-12:00 a.m. and 2:00-4:00 p.m.) or by the email: [email protected]. The candidates who register by e-mail must present proof of Ph.D. title at the time of the selection. The selection of the candidate will be performed by a scientific committee composed of faculty members drawn from both Programs. The candidates pre-selected through the analysis of the presented documents will be invited to present their working plan and defend their proposal on August 16th.-18th, 2010. . 4. The approved candidate will be able to initiate his/her activities immediately after the selection process and will receive: a) post-doctoral fellowship, R$ 6,000,00 (six thousand Brazilian Reais, ~ USD 3,300.00) monthly, for a period of 3 years, that cannot be cumulated with any other fellowship; b) financial support for research expenses, in the amount of R$ 28,000.00 (twenty eight thousands reais) per year. 5.
