Hi, Does anybody know of a video of setting up crystallisation of HEWL or other protein straightforward to crystallise (ie setting up "manually")? Such a setup has the potential even to be popular in schools, I think. I mean I want the experiment shown, and not just a lecture on protein crystallisation.
My searches pick up time lapse video of crystals growing, and robotics setups, but I'm talking about setting up crystallisation manually. Perhaps there are dozens of examples out there, but I'm just not getting to them. I have picked up an article, "Protein Crystallization for X-ray Crystallography" at JoVE, from Moshe Dessau and Yorgo Modis at Yale. You will need a subscription. http://www.jove.com/video/2285/protein-crystallization-for-x-ray-crystallography The formal reference is Dessau, M. A., Modis, Y. Protein Crystallization for X-ray Crystallography. J. Vis. Exp. (47), e2285, DOI: 10.3791/2285 (2011). (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21304455). The "Visualization" provided by Dessau and Modis is very good, and I recommend it. JoVE seems to have, and be sustaining, high production values… …but maybe there are other worthwhile video efforts out there which are more accessible (ie free). Cheers, Bret Church
