The CCP-EM project aims to provide computational support for scientists and software developers using electron cryo-microscopy for structural biology, by analogy with similar successful projects in macromolecular crystallography (CCP4) and biological nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (CCPN).
The CCP-EM project is now underway, with the involvement of scientists from several labs in the UK. We seek an experienced scientist with an interest in software development, to work alongside the current project developer. You will be responsible for developing the CCP-EM software suite, in collaboration with application developers in the consortium. You will also help to apply community standards for cryo-EM data, and provide user support and training. You will be an experienced developer of scientific software. You will have research experience in structural biology or bioinformatics, with a good publication record. Direct experience of cryo-EM would be a distinct advantage, but may not be essential if you can demonstrate some knowledge and an ability to learn. The project is collaborative in nature, so you must be a good communicator and be able to work as part of a team. The core group of CCP-EM is based at the Research Complex at Harwell, alongside the core group of CCP4, but the postholders will be expected to travel throughout the UK and interact with international groups to support the collaboration.
