Dear all, please note:

*AnoXtal: a new platform dedicated to protein crystallization under anaerobic conditions.*

The Metalloproteins Group of the Institut de Biologie Structurale will receive demands for anaerobic protein crystallization, from both the academic and private communities, starting January 2014. Anaerobic crystallization does not only concern proteins that contain air-sensitive metal clusters and active sites but it also applies to proteins which bind organic cofactors, such as FAD, or have thiol groups that can get oxidized to disulfide bridges. The available set-up consists of a Gryphon robot and a CrysCam visualization motorized camera (/ArtRobins/) installed inside a customized glove-box (/Jacomex/). The typical oxygen concentration in the box is 3-5 ppm. Thirteen crystallization kits with a total of 1248 conditions will be available. Each of the 96 wells of the crystallization plate can hold three protein drops so that the maximum total number of drops with different compositions can be 3744. Drops will be monitored periodically, up to six weeks, and the corresponding images will be sent to the user.If usable crystals are obtained, the user may (i) decide to reproduce them locally or (ii) have them mounted, flash cooled and sent to the chosen destination.

The platform AnoXtal is ISO9001 certified and will be available for six-week periods, alternated with equivalent periods of unavailability. The calendar and further information are now available at the IBS web site: http://www.ibs.fr/platforms/other-facilities-developments/crystallisation-under-anaerobic/(link to be changed soon).
