We are seeking highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to join the Biosynthetic
Enzymes Laboratory at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada
(https://www.chem.ubc.ca/katherine-ryan). We are a dynamic group of researchers
working at the interface of chemistry and biology. Our goal is to elucidate the
pathways that lead to natural product molecules. Applicants are sought
primarily in two areas: (1) X-ray crystallography. Top candidates will have
strong experience in protein expression and purification, crystallization
trials, data collection, and structure determination, and can independently
determine the structures of enzymes in complex with ligands. Projects will be
centered on structural investigations of biosynthetic enzymes, to complement
ongoing biochemical and mechanistic studies. (2) Microbial genetics. Top
candidates will have demonstrated expertise in microbial genetics (bacterial or
fungal systems) and the ability to rapidly carry out protocols in molecular
biology. A strong interest (or, ideally, prior exposure) to basic chemical
techniques (purification, HPLC, MS, NMR, etc.) is highly desired. Projects will
be centered on elucidating and engineering pathways to complex natural product
molecules. Top candidates with a strong interest in biosynthesis (with other
backgrounds) will also be given consideration. Please send your CV to Katherine
Ryan at ksr...@chem.ubc.ca. Our laboratory is located centrally in the vibrant
UBC campus, with easy access to the ocean, mountains, and downtown. Vancouver
is routinely ranked as the most livable city in the world.
