Postdoctoral Research Associate in ultrafast X-ray crystallography using
X-ray Free Electron Lasers
Salary scale: £36,070 – £43,350 per annum
(Maximum starting salary £36,070 per annum)
Applications are invited for a Research Associate position available in
the group of Dr Jasper van Thor at Imperial College London. The
successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research group
working on femtosecond structural dynamics of proteins using XFEL
crystallography as well as ultrafast spectroscopy using a
state-of-the-art ultrafast spectroscopy laboratory at the South
Kensington Campus.
The research involves executing femtosecond time resolved pump-probe
X-ray protein crystallography studies at X-ray Free Electron Lasers
(XFELs). The main duties include time resolved protein crystallography
with an emphasis on data processing and analysis using the technique of
Serial Femtosecond Crystallography (SFX). You will also supervise
Research Technicians in their duties to create and prepare
micro-crystals of light sensitive proteins suitable for Serial
Femtosecond Crystallography. Advanced skills and experience with
scientific computing, preferably python, matlab, labview, C++ are
expected. Previous experience using X-ray Free Electron Lasers and
associated data processing tools (Cheetah, CrystFEL) would be an
advantage. The post holder will also be required to travel to USA,
Germany, Switzerland, Korea and Japan for XFEL experiments
This is a full time position available for up to 48 months.
